After playing Heavy Metal music for 35 years, it is no surprise that Metallica drummer, Lars Ulrich, is a tinnitus sufferer and has hearing loss. He cautions young and old alike to watch the volume of the noise around you. As a musician myself, playing drums since I was eight years old, I know first hand that damage can come from even leisurely involvement in these activities. Wearing ear plugs, especially ones made for musicians, can be a huge advantage in preserving your natural hearing.

Jun 7, 2010 at 10:09 PM hmmm...while I suppose this is supposed to be funny, it really isn't. I am a long time drummer with a massive fear that I will soon develop tinnitus. Lars certainly pushed his ears to insane limits with the years of heavy metal but he did not want to get tinnitus. No one at age 18 thinks about how vulnerable their ears are. This is a good post in that it helps warn people. We need to get the message out to the youth that abusing your hearing can have lasting and brutal repercussions.
