Hearing Loss Can Hurt Marriage....Say Again?
For any person that has ever been married - you know marriage is not always easy. Healthy communication experts say is often the key to a successful marriage. So it is not surprising that untreated hearing loss, which hinders communication abilities, can hurt a marriage.
A recent British study revealed, after interviewing 1500 persons over the age of 55 with hearing loss, that 44% of respondents felt their relationship with their partner, friends or family had suffered because they can't hear properly. In 2007 Energizer released a similar study done in the United State that revealed 48% of respondents felt their marriage had suffered due to their spouse's hearing loss.

Aug 12, 2010 at 10:01 PM There was a beautiful movie titled "Koshish" which means "trying hard" made in Hindi about a decade and a half back. This movie beautifully explained the trials of a deaf man and woman trying to lead a normal life and their tribulations in this journey. Folks who believe that issues like hearing disabilities can jeopardize something as sacred as marriage should probably catch a glimpse of this movie which has now been sub-titled in English....and those who still cannot understand this perspective, well it just highlights their shallowness.

The family members are the forgotten sufferers in the world of hearing loss. Thank you very much for posting this. It is a topic that deserves more attention.
